Get Caught Reading Month 2021

Get Caught Reading Month

The greatest weariness comes from work not done.

Eric Hoffer

We know how it is, there’s something special about getting lost in a book, but everyone around you intimates that you’re secluding yourself, or that you’re a bookish nerd. But how could you not want to lose yourself in another world, to go on great adventures and think deep thoughts with the greatest storytellers and thinkers of the ages. Hide your obsession no more! Get Caught Reading Month is your chance to come out of your bookish nook, and get caught reading!

History of Get Caught Reading Month

History has provided us with writers of every type, and books ranging from simple poetry to philosophy and complex scientific concepts. With so much exciting content in the world to read, it’s amazing there aren’t more people getting caught reading every day. In 1999 it was decided that there needed to be a celebration of reading and the authors that produce the works we love to lose ourselves in. So it was that the Association of American Publishers, the AAP, supported www.getcaughtreading.com in dedicating an entire month to being caught with your nose in a book.

Even more exciting, there are lots of celebrities and organizations that have joined in the cause! Mary-Louise Parker from the Big Bang Theory made a point of getting caught reading, and the Jim Hensen Company has used its puppets to encourage children and adults everywhere to read! Get Caught Reading Month is an important celebration for people everywhere!

Reading has helped to expand the minds of people everywhere sharing morals and spirituality, and even teaching people new skills and how to survive in situations they might not otherwise. Not to mention the ever growing library of fantasy worlds and stories to fuel our own personal mythologies and cultures. Without books, where would fandoms be?

How to celebrate Get Caught Reading Month

Well, it’s quite simple actually. You just need to dig your nose into a book and forget about the concerns of other peoples’ opinions. Take out your favorite book and read on your lunch break, take some time to read while you’re enjoying a quiet pre-work breakfast, and keep that book by your side on the bus. Who knows, you may run into other enthusiastic readers who share your passion, love your favorite authors, or may even direct you to new authors that you may love! Get Caught Reading Month is a great chance to meet other bibliophiles, so go out there and Get Caught Reading!

Celebration Bike Month May 2021

Bike Month

The wind in your hair, the city whizzing past, that wonderful gliding feeling…nothing could ever quite beat riding a bike. Not to mention how many health benefits riding a bike offers! What contraption deserves its own day as much as the bike does?

The History of Bike Month

The first mechanically-propelled, two-wheeled vehicle, or what could be called the father of the bicycle, was likely first built by a Scottish blacksmith named Kirkpatrick Macmillan in 1839, although nobody knows for certain. Shortly afterwards, various European inventors followed up on the invention, adding elements familiar to the cyclist of today such as the rear-wheel drive and hand-operated brakes. Modern bicycles are the most efficient human-powered means of transportation known to man in terms of the energy a person must expend to travel a given distance—in other words, thy are extremely practical. For this reason and dozens of others, bicycles have been used by people

For this reason and dozens of others, bicycles have been used by people of all walks of life, including mailmen, salesmen, police officers, paramedics and even troops. Bicycles have also greatly influenced humanity as a whole, by helping to reduce traffic congestion and both air and noise pollution. They have also been linked to significant reductions in poverty, with families’ incomes increasing by up to 35% in countries such as Sri Lanka and Uganda when there is at least one bicycle in the household. Bike Month, held in May, was created in 1956 to celebrate bikes and all the wonderful things they’ve done and continue to do for us.

How to Celebrate Bike Month

Be honest: when was the last time you rode your bike? If it was recently, or better yet if you ride it regularly, good for you—you’re helping to keep our planet cleaner and yourself healthier! Keep doing what you’re doing! But if you realize it’s been a while, Bike Month is the perfect time to get back in the saddle, metaphorically speaking, and do some good for both yourself and your surroundings.

Riding a bike regularly has been proven to increase cardiovascular fitness while decreasing stress levels and body fat levels. Riding your bike will also get you out in the fresh air, and heaven knows all of us working in air-conditioned offices 8 hours a day could use more of that! So this Bike Month, make some changes: make a habit of riding to work by bike once or twice a week, or even more often if you can. If your workplace is too far away or there’s no way for you to take a quick shower once you get there, make riding your bike a part of your fitness regime.

People do all sorts of tricky and difficult to master exercises nowadays, all in the hopes of becoming more fit and maybe losing a few pounds, and some of them do work quite well. But can you really compare sweating through your tights in a stuffy gym to gliding down a road on your bicycle with the sound of in your ears? So dust that bike off and get on it already!

And last but not least, another thing to keep in mind during this month is to get the kids involved, too—habits formed in childhood, both good and bad, tend to stick around for life. Combined with a balanced diet, learning to love riding their bikes will keep your kids healthy and happy for years to come!.

Celebration Golf Month May 2021

Golf Month

Aaah golf, the sport of old rich people who have the time to spend hours upon hours on the rolling green hills of a golf course, following a tiny white speck.

Many of us who have never even attempted to play golf are sure we wouldn’t like it simply because of the people that are most often seen playing it don’t seem to be the most exciting of individuals. But those of us who have tried see this pretty differently, so join us this Golf Month as we show you how much fun this sport can be!

The History of Golf Month

The modern game of golf originated in 15th-century Scotland, but the game’s ancient origins can be traced back to the Roman game of paganica, in which participants used a bent stick to hit a stuffed leather ball. Some historians assert that paganica spread throughout Europe as the Romans conquered most of the continent almost 2,000 years ago, and eventually evolved into the modern game.

Other historians believe that chuiwan a Chinese game played between the eighth and 14th centuries, was the father of modern golf as we know it. A Ming Dynasty scroll dating back to 1368 entitled “The Autumn Banquet” shows a member of the Chinese Imperial court swinging what appears to be a golf club at a small ball with the aim of sinking it into a hole and would thus seem to support this version of history.

Golf Month was created just recently to encourage people who may not think they would like golf to give it a try and benefit from all this sport has to offer.

How to Celebrate Golf Month

The best way to celebrate Golf Month is to get out and play some golf! If you’re someone who already plays golf, maybe try getting some friends or family members who have never tried to join you for a few hours on the course. And if you’ve never tried, it’s the perfect time to! You’ve tried scuba diving and paragliding, and you’ve even learned to play chess…so why not golf?

If you’re still on the fence, consider some of the ways playing golf can be good for your health:

  • Playing golf gets you outdoors and keeps you there. Be honest, how much time do you really spend outside? Seeing as how most jobs are stuffy office jobs these days, we assume your answer to this question is, “Not to much”. A game of golf is guaranteed to keep you outdoors and breathing in that fresh air for approximately 4 hours!
  • Golfing burns plenty of calories. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. The average golf player walks between 5 and 7 kilometers during one game, which burns about 1,000 calories. And all without breaking a sweat!
  • Golf has been proven to reduce stress levels. Thanks to the hours spent either almost alone or conversing with fellow players on a wonderfully green backdrop, golfers tend to be relaxed and more ready to face stress and challenges than players of other sports.

And as if all this is not enough, consider this: countless famous actors, singers and other celebrities adore golf, including Snoop Dogg, Bill Murray, Alice Cooper and Justin Timberlake, so chances are you may even meet one of them on the course one day. So what are you waiting for? Get celebrating Golf Month today!
